Work-Life Balance
People at CERN benefit from 6 weeks' paid holiday as well as 2 weeks' Christmas Shutdown. The reference working week is 40 hours and the working day is 8 hours. Employees are entitled to annual leave of 2.5 working days per month of service. Other special leave includes maternity, paternity and adoption leave, as well as Home Leave for some Staff Members. There is also the possibility to purchase additional leave to allow for some flexibility in working hours.

Relocation Support
An international indemnity is aimed at compensating the expenditure associated with the integration of the staff members and their family in the Geneva area. This financial benefit is paid every six months to staff members whose home station is situated outside a circle with a 100 km radius, or a 150 km radius in Switzerland and France, with its centre at CERN, and who were not living in this circle during the past five years. The installation indemnity is paid to staff members who reside over 70 km from CERN at the time of their Selection Board and who establish their new place of residence within a radius of 50 km from CERN within two years of taking up their appointment. The amount will vary depending on the family situation on the start date of the contract.

Meet Valentina Dzjumane, a Computer Scientist and Finance university student, from Latvia!
1) Tell us about yourself and what brought you to CERN?
My name is Valentina Elizabete Dzjumane, I am a 21-year-old undergraduate student from Latvia. I am working towards a double bachelors in Computer Science (Riga Technical University) and Finance (BA School of Business and Finance). I am leading an upcoming organisation in Latvia, to support women in technology, with special focus on engineering.
Meet Milosz, who was an Administrative Student at CERN in 2021, and is currently finishing his master's degree in Operations Management.
Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?
My name is Milosz Zielinski and I'm currently finishing my master's degree in Operations Management.
Previously, I graduated from Lodz University of Technology in Management and Production Engineering, and from La Rochelle Business school in Business Administration.
Before joining CERN I have been working in the United States and in Poland, supporting the production and implementation of the Polish Air Radar System.

Hi Rebecca, tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?
Hi all! I am Rebecca, I am from the UK, from Imperial College London and I have been a doctoral student at CERN since March 2021. I have always intended to come to CERN as a physics researcher, and even from the age of 12 chose my language and science modules in the hope that I would come to work here someday!
