Hello Fleur, tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN? 

Hello! My name is Fleur and I was born in the Netherlands, but grew up on a small Caribbean island called Curaçao. When I finished high school I moved back to the Netherlands to study Applied Physics at the Delft University of Technology. After finishing my bachelor’s degree I wanted to gain more practical experience in the field of physics, and I have always been fascinated by CERN and their research.

Hej Petter! Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN.

I am a firefighter from Sweden. I am married and have two 6-year old twin boys. During the years I worked there I had the chance to work in two different fire and rescue services, and I was fortunate to be in a time and place where I got the opportunity to engage in some different projects on regional and national levels. This opened my eyes to working in a bigger context, but it is not the whole truth. I am also quite curious and adventurous as a person.

Hello Daniel! Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?

Greetings! I’m Daniel, I come from Romania and have studied in various locations throughout Europe. CERN changed my life, in quite a literal manner. Some of my colleagues can pinpoint exactly when they heard about CERN for the first time and how they knew immediately this is their dream place to be. However, this was not the case for me, but I developed a passion for CERN slowly over time, as I was hearing all the fantastic news about the Organization. 

Hi Anastasiia, tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN? 

Hey there! My name is Anastasiia. Coming originally from Ukraine, I moved to Austria right after finishing school, to study Mass Media and Communication Science at the University of Vienna. While doing my Bachelor’s Degree, I was constantly looking for internship opportunities in the communications field, and one day came across a call for students at CERN in the framework of the Administrative Student Programme.

Hi there, I’m Vilde from Norway, and I’d like to share the story of how I ended up at CERN, and how my life has changed because of it. 

The first thing I think it’s important to remember is that everyone’s path is different, and that’s good! There is no general recipe for reaching a goal. The only approach that will make you happy in the end is finding what truly motivates you, being honest with yourself and others, and to make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons.

Hi Mary, Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?

Hello, I'm Mary, and I work as a fellow software engineer for the Authorization and Authentication Team. I come from Athens, Greece, and I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the Department of Informatics of Athens University of Economics and Business. 

Hello Emil! Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN.

I come from Warsaw, Poland where I obtained my MSc diploma in Computer Science from Warsaw University of Technology. My curiosity about software engineering and physics brought me to CERN where I started as a Summer Student soon after my student exchange in Delft, Netherlands, back in 2016. Later on, I got a chance to continue my journey in the organization as a full-stack web developer, building applications for the accelerator sector and for managing various assets.

Hi Abigail, Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN? 

Hi, I’m Abigail, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Warrington, a town in the North-West of England. I started my journey at CERN in July 2020. Before I started at CERN I was an Apprentice Engineer in the UK water treatment industry, focusing on design. I had previously visited CERN in January 2017 on a college trip but never imagined I would one day work here.  I knew of CERN and the work that is done here but always imagined staff would require university degrees and years of relevant experience.

Hello Bharti, tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?

My name is Bharti Verma and I am a chemical engineer. I have recently joined CERN as a fellow. I completed my PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India where I worked on the application of nanotechnology in the treatment of wastewater. A part of my Ph.D. work was executed in one of the leading companies of India.
